Stress. Stress. Stress.

We spend a considerable amount of time reducing stress in our modern lives, but we are surrounded by toxins, negative media, traffic, noise, and so much more.

But is your home causing stress as well? Beyond any chemicals and toxins that may be there, the organization of your home can be a problem as well. Clutter causes stress.

Your entire home should be your sanctuary. You may have made your bedroom a sanctuary, but if the rest of your home is cluttered and filled with piles of just stuff, then that disorganization can cause stress. If clutter is a problem, then you may have other issues to address as well like poor air quality and other issues.

Let’s take a look at reducing stress on our minds and bodies while at home.

Establish a healthy routine

Waking up late and racing to make it to work on time can damage your health. You need time to wake up and take stock of your inner peace. Get up on time and with enough time to get in touch with your body, mind, and spirit before jumping into the to-do list.

Begin with some spiritual practice. Focus on gratitude. You can meditate, try yoga, or take a nature walk. Establishing a spiritual practice each morning helps you stay aligned and centered throughout the day.

Keep healthy food in your home

What you eat and drink has a direct impact on your anxiety levels. Healthy, nutrient-rich foods will help relieve stress, while processed foods and chemically grown items can induce stress. Stock your home with whole, natural foods. View food as medicine and select healthy alternatives to unhealthy favorites. By supporting your immune system this way, you will feel more balanced throughout your daily life. Add more plant protein, mushrooms, and adaptogenic super herbs to help elevate your mood, body, beauty, and consciousness. This reduces stress and balances your energy for a calmer mind.

Declutter your home

Research shows a direct link between higher cortisol levels and cluttered homes with piles of papers, clothes, toys, and trash. This causes higher levels of stress and may negatively impact your weight. While decluttering all at once may seem prohibitive, start slowly. Pick one room. Make a commitment to declutter a little each morning after your spiritual practice. You can donate your unused items to a local non-profit to help others in need, or have a garage sale to put a little cash in your wallet.

Poor indoor Air quality

Indoor allergens can trigger many respiratory problems and other health conditions. Addressing the quality of your indoor air can improve your overall health. Help maintain the cleanliness of your home by changing air filters and using an air purifier. Open windows when you can, and having indoor plants can help improve the air quality as well.

Be intentional with media

So many shows on TV or streaming services are violent. Be careful with your consumption of such shows. Review your viewing choices and your social media feed to limit negativity and traumatic content. Fill your content with positive choices. Batter yet, turn off the media, pick up some hobbies or get outdoors for a nature walk.

Eliminating toxins from your home

Air fresheners may smell nice, but they use chemicals and synthetic fragrances. These can be harmful to breathe on a daily basis. Look for cleaning products that use natural scents or pure essential oils. Do this also with your beauty products. Look for ingredients derived from plants that are expertly sourced.

Final thoughts

Your home should be your sanctuary away from life’s stressors. Take steps each day to declutter. Start your day with a spiritual practice. Limit toxins. Eat healthy foods. These are proactive ways to solve problems and an effective way to manage your life.
